Skonto is Number One in the Latvian Virsliga and in excellent shape. In the first qualifying round of the Europa League they went through on penalties after playing 1-1 on aggregate against FC Tiraspol of Moldova.
Slovan Liberec ended thrird in the Czech liga last season. The new league season hasn't started yet. They didn't participate in the first Europa League round of qualification.
The Lavians have an advantage in being in-season while the Czechs have more quality overall by far. I expect Skonto to focus on keeping the Czechs at bay. Skonto has only let in four goals in twelve league games so far domestically. However, they seem mighty unstable, and this opposition is several levels above what they usually meet in the Virsliga. I'd expect Slovan Liberec also to be close to full speed as their domestic league kicks off on the 18.7.
