ZALGIRIS – ST PATRICKS: PREDICTIONS

Europa League continues with more entertaining games. Zalgiris of Lithuania host Irish Republic side St Particks.

Zalgiris in its own right is a pretty new side, this side rose from the ashes of Zalgiris Vilnius, a side who went bankrupt in 2009. After beginning life in 2^nd division they gained immediate promotion back into the top flight. Ther old Zalgiris of Vilnuis in Lithuania have been playing since formation in 1962. The Green Whites had won the Lithuanian Championship three times, most recently in 1999. The current season is well on its way and The Green Whites top the table with 14 wins, 2 draws and 1 defeat from 17 matches. The old  Zalgiris have played 56 times all across the different Euro competitions with 17 wins, 8 draws and 31 defeats. They have progressed as far as round 3 on a few occasions but as soon as they face up to a big gun they usually bow out. This VMFD Zalgiris side have only played two matches in  European competition, losing to Admira Wacker of Austria in their only tie so far.

St Patricks of Ireland have been going since 1929 but did not make the League of Ireland until 1951. The side has 7 league titles but none since 1999. The current team is flying and tops the League of Ireland after 19 games with 13 wins, 3 draws and 3 defeats. In European Competition they have played 44 matches with 11 wins, 7 draws and 26 defeats. St Patricks have really come on in continental matches over the last three years and have managed to progress to the third round each year.  Wins over Kryla Sovetov, IBV and Siroki Brijeg has took them to within one round of the group stages but the step up in class has been too much.

A really close game this one between two table topping sides. Both teams should be at the same fitness levels too as both are competing in summer leagues.
