MALI U20 – MEXICO U20: PREDICTIONS

The Fifa U20 World Cup continues with the 3^nd round of games in Group D . Mali sit in the box seat as they have an outside chance of a top two finish. A draw here would elimate Mexico but may be enough for Mali to grab a best 3^rd place finish. Mexico may have to win with goals if they want to try and grab a best 3^rd spot.

Mali u20 have pretty much played two exact same games with a pair of solid if unspectacular draws. They opened up with a 1-1 with Paraguay which featured an action packed 10 minutes where both sides scored and then 80 minutes of inactivity. Game two saw the Greeks share possession and play with Mali which in truth was a dire game in which neither team really played to win. Mali need to avoid defeat to have a chance of a best 3^rd place finish. But unless they win they have to rely on other results.

Mexico u20 had a strong opening game with Greece in which they dominated play and possession but left the game with nothing after an inability to finish the multitude of chances they created. Second match saw a Mexico side who were strongly fancied in many quarters again fail to deliver. Paraguay were solid in defence and midfield and gave no inch to the Mexicans who in truth were poor. Mexico do have a chance of a best 3^rd place finish but nothing higher than that. They must win and win well here to even hope to make the top four of the third placed teams.
