Austria v Greece predictions and betting tips

Austria is slowly but surely producing a fine generation of footballers again. They are fighting with Sweden and Ireland for second place behind Germany in their World Cup Qualifying Group. Their defense is very solid with the likes of Fuchs (Schalke), Pogatetz (Nurnberg) and Garics (Bologna). I like their midfield too with the likes of Bayern starlet Alaba, the controversial Arnautovic of Werder Bremen, Harnik of Stuttgart, Ivanschitz of Levante and midfield anchor Baumgartlinger of Mainz etc. Austria will create a lot of goals from advanced midfield positions with this bunch.

Greece is doing OK in a light weight World Cup Qualifying Group. After six games they’re second place behind Bosnia Herzegovina. Their form is good too! In their ten last games only two have been lost. Kyriakos Papadopoulos sits out still. The ageing quartet of Karagounis, Samaras, Salpingidis and Gekas has been left out of the squad this time and a younger group has been selected. The squad is in other words slightly experimental. The first eleven will however no doubt be pretty strong.

Greece is the master of cagy and defensive football. They’ll try to contain the offensive Austrian midfield, but overall: I think Austria has picked the better squad. That is key for me here. My betting tips is Austria to win at 2.15 (23/20) on the 1x2. I doubt that price will stand long to be honest.

With Greece trying out a new offensive group of players I think they’ll be even more focused on their defensive duties. Add to that the tempo of a friendly game and the Under 2.5 looks good at 1.66 (2/3). I think it can be taken with confidence!
