Austria warm up for their 1^st actual qualified finals since 1998. They did host in 2008 but were given automatic entry obviously. They got through by topping a group above Russia, Sweden and Montenegro. Winning 9 and drawing 1 game to easily qualify. Friendly results of late see a poor run with 1 draw and 3 losses. They were defeated by Brazil, Turkey and Switzerland.  They take on Malta at Worthersee Stadion and should have few problems in truth. Malta have won 1 game in 18 matches (a single win over Lithuania) the other results see 3 draws and 14 losses. They have failed to score in 15 of those games.  They finished bottom of a tough group in qualifiers. They did manage a draw with  both Azerbaijan and Bulgaria mind.  Top scorer Marc Janko is unlikely to be risked here due to a niggle. Malta will pack defence and midfield and usually go with 10 men behind the ball and try to kill space.  They are without key men Steve Borg and Joseph Zerafa  Jonathan Caruana here. While striker Andre Schembri is unavailable too.

Malta will battle out with the usual 5-3-2 backs to the wall effort. Austria for me are better than Czech Republic and they hammered Malta last match 6-0. I take a comfortable home win here infront of what is expected to be a full house at 50,000 fans. There are few Asian handicaps available as of now so we have to take the traditional handicap (with the tie) go with Austria -2 at 5-6 or 1.83 Paddypower. Malta are poor anyway but without at least three certain starters they are weaker still.
