GHANA – IVORY COAST :PREDICTIONS

The top two teams on the Continent meet in a friendly match in Kumasi. The Black Stars against The Elephants in what should be a cracking warm up match.

Ghana have had a good years run of results. Over the last 12 months they have managed 11 wins, 3 draws and 3 defeats. With 33 goals scored and 16 conceded they are very strong in the sector. The team is crammed with talent from across the main leagues of Europe. They are a little short at the back which for me is their main weakness. In midfield they have a multitude of option with Sully Muntari, Christian Atsu and Kwadwo Asamoah, three very good players. Upfront is the skipper Asamoah Gyan, who has an exceptional strike rate of 34 in 72 at this level. There are a lot of youngsters in the group too, with exciting strike pair Richmond Boakye and Dominic Adiyah fighting to partner Gyan. In Group D of Afcon qualifiers Ghana are surprisingly not top, sitting in 2^nd with 3 wins and 1 defeat. They will be expected to topple Zambia though and make their way to Brazil.

Ivory Coast are another side to have a fantastic year of results. Playing 12 games over the past 12 months (and against top quality sides too) they have managed 8 wins, 3 draws and 1 defeat. Scoring 31 and conceding 13 shows their strength. The Ivory Coast side is crammed with talent and they have superb back up players too. Defensively sound with top back men such as Kolo Toure, Arthur Boka and Sol Bamba. They have many options across the middle with powerhouses Didier Zakora, Yaya Toure complimented by the attacking threats of Romaric, Ya Konan and Max Gradel.  Up front they have an embarrassment of riches even without Drogba. They have Kalou, Gervinho and Kone all fighting out with the inform duo of Doumbia and Bony.  Lacina Traore is another option too. Ivory Coast sit atop their Group with 3 wins, 1 draw and 0 defeats.

This is a battle against two of the best sides in Africa. For me though Ivory Coast have the better players, the better squad. Although the game is meaningless and both sides will be keen to avoid any injuries neither will want to give an inch.
