Spain take on Saudi Arabia in a preparation match in Galicia. The Spanish side have a free weekend from qualifying so take on the Middle East in what could be a one sided affair.

2012 Form:

  • Spain               P11 W9 D2 L0 GF26 GA3 - Average goals per game 2.64
  • Saudi Arabia    P1 W0 D0 L1 GF2 GA4  - Average goals per game 6

Head to head:Games played 2.

  • Spain Wins:2
  • Draws:0
  • Saudi Arabia Wins:0

Average goals per game:3.00

Spain have made several key changes to the squad that performed so admirably in Euro 2012. Out go Llorente and Negredo for tactical reasons. Javi Martinez was granted leave as he regains full fitness after his transfer to Bayern Munich. Juan Mata was left out after having very little rest due to Olympic duty and Carlos Puyol was njured. David Villa returns to the international squad but we do not think he will get much game time, it seems to be an inclusion to get him fit. Soldado returns to Spain and even the player himself admitted it was a shock. We are likely to see a continuation of the 4-5-1 formation that Del Bosque loves with Torres likely to lead the line after his return to goalscoring form. Saudi Arabia will be led into battle with a manager who knows the Spanish players more than most, Frank Rijkaard leads The Greens and will be hoping his inside knowledge of the Barcelona players will be of use. The Saudi squad is little known outside the region but boasts top players. Yasir Al Qahtani is widely regarded as one of Saudi's best ever players, the captain is an attacking midfielder and top scorer. He will be partnered by either Mohammed Noor or Hawzazi, both decent strikers with plenty of creative talent. The senior Saudi team has only played one game so far this year and that was an ill fated 4-2 defeat to Australia (the olympic u23 sqaud played many times this year but their results do not count) Rijkaard admitted his team suffered due to fasting for Ramadan, the side visibly weakened towards the end of the game and conceded three late goals.

Betting Prediction - This is a game Spain should win easily enough, they will treat it as preparation though and won't want to get any injuries for the important World Cup qualifier against Georgia in midweek. Spain struggled in a similar game recently when they travelled to Puerto Rico for a friendly.  Only winning 2-1 in a game they dominated. Spain should win this game easy and 1.08 (betfair) is the price. Under 3.5 goals is 2.30 (Betvictor) if you think Spain will again play within themselves.
