MACEDONIA – BULGARIA: PREDICTIONS

Bit of a feisty local derby here as Macedonia host Bulgaria, relations are not at the highest between both nations and this could be a heated affair in Skopje.

Macedonia are in a bit of poor form at the moment. In World Cup qualifying they are out of the reckoning already.  They were given a horrible draw and are possibly the best side sitting at the bottom of any group in Europe.  In a group with Serbia, Croatia and Belgium they were never going to make the top spots, but they have not managed to overhaul Scotland or Wales. Just 1 win and 1 draw with 4 defeats. They managed to beat Serbia and draw with Scotland. In friendlies they have mixed results with 3 wins and 3 defeats. Bulgaria are doing well in World Cup Qualifying, in a pretty tough group. Sitting in 2^nd place behind Italy in a group that contains Denmark and Czech Republic too. Bulgaria are unbeaten after six games with 2 wins and 4 draws. In the last 10 games over the past year Bulgaria have 5 wins, 4 draws and 1 defeat. They have scored 16 goals with just 6 conceded, considering one game was a 6-1 win Bulgaria have kept thing really tight. Taking the Malta game out of the equation Bulgaria goals per game average is 1.67. Top scorer over the last 12 months has been defender Stanislav Manolev with 4 goals. Bulgaria are climbing up the FIFA rankings and now sit in 53^rd with 596 points.

This game looks very likely to a fiercely fought game even though it’s a friendly. Two teams with talented individuals going head to head. Bulgaria are the slight favourites at the moment but there is a movement towards Macedonia which I don’t agree with. At this stage FIFA ranking points start to increase in value for any side with chances of making the World Cup.
