SPAIN – REPUBLIC OF IRELAND :PREDICTIONS
Spain seek to improve the long unbeaten record again a dogged Republic of Ireland side. The Yankee Stadium in NY is the venue for this Confederations Cup warm up for the Iberian giants.
Spain are on a ridiculously long unbeaten run which stretches all the way back to November 2011. Surprising Irish neighbours England were the team who won the match. Since then however the Spain machine has relentlessy rolled over side after side. 16 wins and 4 draws from 20 games in an unbelievable run. With 50 goals scored and only 9 conceded the Spanish are looking almost invincible. 12 clean sheet in those 20 games shows the utter dominance from them as they take the Barcelona game and merge it with a bit of Madrid steel. The team and indeed the squad pretty much pick itself. The side is very balanced and with only Xabi Alonso missing of the usual suspects but Spain is a very settled side. Expect Javi Martinez to take the place of Alonso and its pretty much business as usual. Spain sit atop their Group in qualifying but its not all been plain sailing. France have pressured them a bit but Spain have 3 wins and 2 draws and a single point advantage.
Republic of Ireland are in battling away as usual, but seem to lack the quality and team spirit of the last few years. They are in a really tough group indeed, after being paired with all conquering Germany all the rest of group C were looking at the runners up spot at best. Ireland sit in joint 2nd position after 6 games. Since their awful showing in Euro 2012 Ireland have had a mixed bag of results. While 6 wins, 4 draws and 3 defeats seems like a decent return they have only managed to beat one side of note in Poland. Wins over Oman, Faroe Islands (twice) and Kazakhstan will impress few people. With 23 goals scored and 13 conceded in that straight forward run of games it shows a weakness in the Ireland side. Germany walloped them 6-1 in Dublin and Serbia outplayed them for long parts of their 0-0 draw. Recent wins over Faroes and Georgia (3-0 & 4-0 respectively) will give some confidence.
SPAIN – REPUBLIC OF IRELAND: BETTING TIPS
Spain are several levels above this Irish side and should have no problems at all here. The odds are enhanced for us on match and handicap levels as this game will be at a neutral venue but the result will still be the same. Spain -1.5 looks great value at 1.85 and is a great bet. Ireland will harry Spain for long periods but with little chances of keeping any meaningful possession this will be a seriously one sided game.
