Both Liverpool FC and Chelsea were involved in high scoring matches domestically on Matchday 1. For the UEFA Super Cup we should be fairly certain that both sides turn up wanting to win. Liverpool are the current Champions league champions. Chelsea won the UEFA Europa League. Since then Liverpool failed to bring in any new top signings in the transfermarket. Chelsea were barred from bringing in any new players, and on top of that they lost Eden Hazard and David Luiz. Liverpool won comfortably vs Norwich last weekend, but did not look up for it defensively. Norwich could easily been scoring a few more goals. Offensively though, Liverpool looked ready. Salah was brilliant. Origi continued where he left off. Firminho looked sharp. Mane was ready too when he was given the nod off the bench. Chelsea looked lost as a side. Frank Lampard has yet to put his stamp on this team. The sale of David Luiz was a surprise, and I can't really see it being so smart given the squad available. One can say for certain though that Chelsea will be looking to revenge the 4-0 loss at Old Trafford. To their credit, the score line flattered the Red Devils. Chelsea were better than the result indicated.
For Liverpool Naby Keita is a fresh injury concern. He limped off the training ground 13.08. Worse is it that Allison Becker is ruled out. The brazillian shot-stopper is perhaps the best goal keeper in the world, and has been amazing for the Reds so far. With Mignolet shoing off to Club Bruges, Adrian will deputize. He only made the bench for West Ham last season, so he is not in the world class category. Let us put it like that. For Chelsea, they have one of the best defensive midfielders potentially out as Lampard did say Kante may have to sit this one out during his press conference.
Two sides that know each other well this of course. Chelsea come into the game hungry to revenge a bitter defeat from the weekend. Liverpool are riding a wave, but looked defensively fragile. To be honest they have done so all pre-season too. In a match that surely will have its moments, let us not forget it is a slight element of training match mentality possible. With Matchday two domestically fast approaching it is hard to see the teams take any big risks. The tempo should be quite high though. And with two shaky defences and plenty of goal-scoring threats on the pitch I go for the over 2.5 line priced at 1.69.
