The World Cup in Brazil has reached the Round of 16. First out are Brazil vs Chile. Given how these two teams have fared in the World Cup this should be quite a game to watch.
Brazil so far in the World Cup
Brazil beat Croatia 3-1 in the world cup opener. Croatia was never outplayed, and will feel hard done by. Brazil got a soft penalty and Neymar could have been sent off. Croatia even had the ball in the net, but again the ref denied them glory, also that a questionable decision.
Brazil was then held to 0-0 by Mexico. It was a game Brazil ran, but Mexico was always very dangerous on the counter. On the few occasions Brazil cut the five man strong Mexico defense open Ochoa (keeper) was in the way.
Brazil showed some glimpses of greatness in the final group stage game against Cameroon. It was a very one sided game possession wise, and Cameroon did not create much. Brazil ended with a 4-1 win on the night.
Chile so far in the World Cup
Chile opened with a 3-1 win over Australia. Chile ran riot for 40 minutes and was 2-0 up. A Tim Cahill game changed the game and it was a bit nervier for the skillful Chileans from then on.
Chile played Spain next. Spain had most of the possession, but could not make it count. Chile, like Holland countered the Spanish apart. Chile did look very stylish in the process!
In the group decider against Holland Chile controlled the game and did look the likely winner. Holland did however display some fine counter attacking skills and managed to get a 2-0 win.
Team news
No players are suspended. As of now there is no relavent team news to report either. I will update this prediction if any news worth reporting occurs. It is worth noting Vidal will return for Chile after being rested against Holland.
Run of play
It is highly likely Brazil will lead the dance and Chile looking to execute blistering counters. Keep in mind this is a knock out game, so caution will come first more often than in the group stages. If you make a mistake in the group game, you can still save your world cup in the next game. Make a mistake in the knock out rounds and you may be out!
Should Brazil get their goal I still think it is likely Brazil will continue going forward. At the end of the day I think Brazil end up with 62-65% possession.
Brazil v Chile betting tips
The market came out about 1.70 for Brazil but has since drifted downwards towards 1.50. Brazil is of course the favorite, but I see no value in 1.50 whatsoever. In order to break even on that bet Brazil will have to win the game about 66.66% of the time. Chile has so much offensive firepower they can hurt any side when allowed to counter. Brazil’s defense looked shaken many times in the group stages, and I think they will get a stern test again.
At the same time, Brazil has magic up front in Neymar. They are definitely good enough to get back in the game should they go 1-0 down, or even 2-0. At home they will not give up!
At current prices my betting tip has to be the draw. As leisure punters pile on Brazil and semi-sharp money pile in on Chile the draw has been a bit overlooked. As a result it has inflated to 4.75 at BET 365. That is for me is truly a massive price.
