Brazil was a wee bit lucky in the first game of this World Cup tournament when they beat Croatia 3-1. Neymar could have been sent off for an elbow tackle. Brazil got a super soft penalty and a couple more important soft decisions in their favor. That said, offensively: Neymar showed he is capable to lead the line, and we know there is plenty of attacking talent to draw from.
Mexico fully deserved the 1-0 win they got over Cameroon. Cameroon did not do much to dominate the middle of the park, and Mexico (for me) had an easy game. The winning margin should have been even bigger as the Mexicans were denied two offside goals. The ref got both those decisions wrong.
Team News
The only update here is that Hulk took a knock in training and he limped off the pitch after. He is back in training though. Even if he is not fully fit Brazil has players such as Bernard, Willian and Jo who could replace him.
Run of play
The two sides met in the 2013 Confederations cup opener. Brazil was the best side throughout, but did not dominate. A few glimpses of individual skills from the attacking players of Brazil was the key to the 2-0 result Brazil ended up getting.
I am fairly sure Brazil will dominate possession here though. They have hit the ground running, their shoulders are down and they got the players who should thrive in such a setting. We know they got players who can convert that possession to goals. Mexico will lay very deep and go for speedy counters. The Brazilian defense is very strong in one-on-one situations. They got speed and great movement. They are obviously much better equipped to deal with Mexico’s offensive players than Cameroon was.
Mexico prefers to play a five man back line, and a narrow midfield trio. However, against Cameroon they played a 3-5-2 variant. It made sense to make the midfield crowded as Cameroon has some powerful midfielders. Against Brazil I think they will be forced back though. When the teams met in the Confederations Cup in 2013 Mexico opted for a 4-2-3-1 formation. They might opt for that again or consider a slightly more defensive 4-5-1 formation. Do however note that Mexico hasn't sent many central midfielders to the World Cup. Truth be told no matter how Mexico lines up they will be cut open plenty of times throughout the 90 minutes of football. Any team playing Brazil will!
Betting tip for 1x2
Mexico will have to try to defend their way to a result. Against lesser opponents that has worked well for them. Against a side like Brazil they will have big problems. This looks like a very one-sided game, and I do not hesitate in taking Brazil at 1.33 with BET365 at all.
