Cameroon was defensively poor against Mexico in their world cup opener as I predicted. I am shocked however they did not try to overpower the Mexicans in midfield. With M’Bia and Song among others in there they had an opportunity to control the game better. Offensively they have qualities to build on, and they did display that at a couple of occasions. However they deserved the loss.

Croatia played a very good game against Brazil. They were fairly composed at the back given the opposition. They created several dangerous attacks and could easily have gotten something out of the game. Brazil received one of the softest penalties given as well as a couple more important decisions of the soft variety. Neymar, the two goals hero could have been sent off at 0-0 as well.

Croatian star striker Mandzukic did not play for Croatia against Brazil. He will however be back here. He scored four goals in qualification for Croatia (33.4% of all their qualification goals) so he is obviously important. He had a good 2013/2014 season for Bayern Munich (who he is leaving), scoring 22 goals for the club in all competitions.

Run of Play

I think Croatia will see a lot of the ball, and I think Cameroon will have to rely on infrequent possession and counter attacks.

In my opinion; Cameroon has one of the poorest backlines in the 2014 World Cup. They are very likely to sacrifice some offensive firepower to cope with the Croatian strike force. A strike force I think will cause them all sorts of problems as Croatia have great midfielders in Luka Modric and Ivan Raktic. As predicted these two maestros tracked back for much of the game against Brazil. Here they will venture forward!

Betting tip for 1x2

Croatia looked solid in World Cup qualification and they impressed at times against Brazil. With Modric and Raktic more offensive-minded and Mandzukic back it looks like they are well set up for three points and World Cup glory.

Bet365 offers 1.73, and I think that is useful. At least I bet it just now myself. Pile on early though. I do not think these odds will stand come kick off.
