As I wrote in the winning margin betting tips I think this will be a relatively close affair, but with Spain owning possession. It is after all a group opener between two very good teams. It is a typical "want to avoid losing more than going for the win" match. Both sides know they face the supposedly toughest test in the first game and should have easier matches in round two and three of the World Cup Group stages.
Spain will control possession, but have proven over the course of many a championship their matches seldom go over 2.5. I interpret this as an argument for a positional chess game. Particularly in the first half!
The main argument
If you look at Spain and the Dutch combined matches in the World Cup of 2010 and the Euro in 2012 (23 matches) you will see 13 out of 23 matches ended with a draw at half time. That alone indicates an odds of approximately 1.77. I can see no special reason why the odds should be higher this time around either. Value shout from me!
