AUSTRIA - IRELAND PREDICTIONS AND BETTING TIPS

Austria have improved their standing over the last year or so and look in a better position after a fair few years of struggle. Sitting in 3^rd position in group with 3 wins, 2 draws and 2 defeats from 7 games. Indeed on runaway group leaders Germany have managed to beat a resurgent Austria. In friendly matches though they seem to struggle to get up for games and have had poor results. In 3 games they have lost them all, losing to Ivory Coast, Wales and Greece. Bayern Munich left back David Alaba is surprisingly the sides top scorer with 4 goals and is amongst the top players in his position, for his country he plays in a central midfield position and can often be found in goalscoring positions.

Ireland for me face a real decline and should no longer be looked upon as a serious team. Full of Premiership squad members and lower league players they are not able to compete at the top level and will drop back into the pack of mediocre sides. Robbie Keane continues to bang them in and sits with 60 international goals but look around the rest of the side and there is no creation. Jon Walters is a hardworking forward but can only really play in the bustling Stoke style. Ireland have this game and the Kazakhstan home fixture alongside a certain away loss to Germany.

These sides have only met once in the last 15 years. The 2-2 draw in Ireland when David Alaba scored a 90^th minute goal to grab a point. The game was difficult for Ireland who were second best to the Austrians for most of the game. Ireland and Walters in particular were clinical with their chances but in truth a draw was the least Austria deserved.

I can see goals here, I think Ireland will struggle but they remain very dangerous from set pieces and their direct football can cause problems. Austria are the better side for me but I do see goals in Vienna. Average goals for both sides in games in this group is massive at 3.43 – With 4 goals in the Ireland leg and many chances it will be an open heat. Over goals is 2.10 with Stanjames and a good price.
