Colombia opens up their qualifying section against Peru in Barranquilla. Colombia were fancied to do well in Copa America but never really got going. In last World Cup qualifying group they were electric though and done well. They finished 2^nd in the table with 30 points from 16 games. Home form was solid with 5 wins, 2 draws and 1 loss.  They only lost to group winners Argentina at home and that was way back in game 1 in 2011! Injuries will affect the home side here though with James Rodriguez, Pablo Armero, Daniel Bocanegra and Edwin Valencia all missing for sure. McNally Torres was a late withdrawal too while Radamel Falcao – the darling of the country is woefully out of form. Peru finished 7^th of 9 in last qualifiers mainly down to their woeful away record. In 8 games they managed 1 draw (at Bolivia) and actually lost all other games! Scoring 8 and conceding 20. Good news in the shape of the returning strike duo Guererro and Pizzarro. Juan Manuel Vargas is not fit nor is midfielder Tapia.

 

These sides have already met twice this year, in Chile and in New Jersey. Both games finished as draws as Peru stifled the Colombians. At home though they are a different animal and I do fancy a home win here. I don’t see many goals and indeed many chances and low goals looks a play too.
