Ecuador v Argentina Preview

Ecuador are third in the South American World Cup Qualification table. At home, 2800 meter above sea level they're 6-0-0 (13-2). Last time Argentina came up to Quito it ended 2-2. That was a friendly in 2011. Last Qualification match (back in 2009) ended 2-0 in favor of the home side. 

The big name in this Ecuador side is Antonio Valencia of Manchester United, but Christian Benitez (who scored the winner against number two in the group, Colombia some time back) of Club America and Felipe Caicedo of Lokomotiv Moscow are also excellent attack minded players.

Argentina are comfy at the top of the table with 25 points from 12 matches. They head into this tie after back to back draws. Away from home so far they're 2-2-1 (6-5). Here they'll miss Higuain who was sent off against Colombia. Pablo Zabaleta sits out too. Messi is still not deemed 100% fit so it is unlikely he will play 90 minutes here.

Argentina hasn't looked 100% in their last couple of games, and are most likely a bit fat and happy up there at the top of the table. They know they're going to the World cup! Ecuador still has work to do. Up in high altitude they've proven a handful for everyone. 6-0-0 are massive stats! This looks like the right time to beat this highly talented Argentina side too. I am not however prepared to bet on Argentina losing on the 1x2 at 2.40 (7/5).
