Greece won 1-0 away to Liechtenstein on Friday. That’s perhaps not a spectacular result, but the job got done. This result puts Greece on sixteen points, the same tally as Bosnia Herzegovina. These two sides are four points ahead of Slovakia in third. In other words; Greece definitely still has a very real chance of going to Brazil. Greece is extremely difficult to play against. Have a look at how many under 2.5 games they’ve played in competitive matches and you’ll see what I am talking about. Greece also converts enough chances to goals to be considered one of the better sides in Europe, this even if they perhaps don’t have the biggest of names on their roster. One of their (in my opinion) big names sits out: Kyriakos Papadopoulos (Schalke 04). Other than that the first eleven will be rock solid.

Latvia beat Lithuania 2-1 at home in a Baltic thriller on Friday. They have no realistic hope of going to Brazil though. Here they’re up against a very tough to beat Greek side. Latvia has some decent players in this Virsliga dominated squad: Cauna (CSKA Moskva), Kamess (Amkar Perm) and Rudnevs (HSV) are talented players. However, I can’t see Latvia breaking down the home side unless they get very lucky.
