New Zealand topped the non contest that is the Oceania section with 8 wins and 1 draw. They managed 21 goals scored and only conceded 4.  However these games were against Tahiti and Solomon Islands.  Whenever New Zealand step up in class they usually fail. Recent games against Jamaica, UAE, Paraguay and Mexico (all lost) and China, Honduras and El Salvador (all drawn) – Mexico struggled surprisingly during qualification and finished 4^th outside the automatic qualifiers. Mexico were abysmal and as poor as one can remember in recent times.  Mexico have had a really busy year, playing more games than most nations. A massive 22 games with 8 wins, 7 draws and 7 defeats. The most important game was the 1^st leg of this tie which Mexico won at a canter. 5-1 to Mexico was a tremendous result and amazingly the home picked just Mexico based players as they took the game to their opponents at high altitude of the Azteca Stadium.

A pumped up Mexico will go at New Zealand as if this game is still in the balance. The gulf in class here was plain for all to see and this was a Mexico side without its ‘stars’ – A bold tactic that paid off well for the interim coach. I fancy Mexico to run up a few more goals here as New Zealand are hopelessly outclassed.
