PARAGUAY - ARGENTINA: PREDICTIONS

Paraguay finally came good after a desperate qualifying section with a 4-0 home win over Bolivia. and moved off the bottom to hold 11 points from 12 games.   Paraguay’s containing game worked wonders in previous tournements but other teams are wise to the play and have figured out a way to beat Paraguay. The team is ponderous, fractured and deserves nothing from the section. Just 3 wins, 2 draws and 8 defeats says its all. In Asuncion they  have been strong with 3 wins 1 draw and 2 defeats but away from home they have been dismal. If Paraguay throw three wins together they do still have a massive outside chance of making the playoff. Two of their three remaining games are at home so there is a glimmer of hope. Form in 2013 is ok with 2 win 2 draws and 2 defeats.  Coach Victor Genes has drafted in a lot of young players in a bid to kick start the late surge.Keeper and former captain Justo Villar has been left out in what is a largely home based selection; No place in the squad for recognised big names Lucas Barrios, Nelson Heado Valdez or Oscar Cardozo.

Argentina only need a win to confirm their place in Brazil in 2014. They travel to Asuncion joint top of the section with Colombia. In 13 games they have 7 wins, 5 draws and just 1 defeat. Form in the qualifying is not great with three draws in the last three matches but its been sufficient to cement their status at the top. They are without a host of big names here too as injury and suspensions have wracked the squad. Missing for La Albiceleste are Javier Mascherano, Gonzalo Higuain, Ezequiel Garay and Federico Fernandez.  Everything rests as usual on the small shoulders of a certain Lionel Messi.  A few positives are the return of Kun Aguero, the diminutive striker will be welcomed back amidst all the missing men, he is joined by the return of a rejuvenated Fernando Gago.

PARAGUAY - ARGENTINA: BETTING TIPS       

I am going with a shock result here as I am opposing Argentina. I feel Messi will not be at full destructive mode as he is still recovering from a hamstring injury that has affected him this season. Argentina are missing almost half the side too and are fielding an almost second string here. The quality is decent but with qualification almost 99% they wont be killing themselves. Paraguay were boosted by the midweek 4-0 win and although have little chance of making Brazil I expect them to have a real go in their last matches. The scalp of Argentina with Messi in it will be the prize and in Ascunsion I expect Paragauy to avoid defeat. I take Paraguay +1 at 1.65 with Bet365.
