PARAGUAY - CHILE PREDICTIONS

Conmebol Qualifying in South America sees Paraguay host Chile in a massive game for both sides. Asuncion is the setting for what the home side hopes is a kick start to their poor campaign so far. Chile has flattered to deceive also but is in a good position.

Paraguay have been in poor form in this qualifying tournament, but such is the length of the section we still have 7 games left and Paraguay could still sneak a playoff place at least. They have to start winning though and that’s something they have struggled to do so far. After 11 games they sit 9^th and last with 2 wins, 2 draws and 7 defeats. With 8 goals scored and 21 conceded they are in a bit of trouble. The strange thing is Paraguay have the same group of players that have served them so well over the years. The backline is strong with Alcaraz and Da Silva still holding the centre. Riveros is still there pulling the strings and although Estigarribia has not seemed to improve any he did recover from his flop at Juve with a decent season at Sampdoria. Upfront they have an embarrassment of riches with Santa Cruz, Cardozo and Benitez all vying for a start. Outside of World Cup qualifying Paraguay are actually in exceptional form. Since the beginning of 2012 they have won 6 and drawn 1 of their 7 games.

Chile have had the proverbial “game of two halves” in qualifying. Starting off with 4 wins from 5 but have had 4 losses on the bounce in recent games. They halted the poor run with a strong performance and a 2-0 win over Urugauy in Santiago in the last match. In friendly matches results have been mixed also. 3 wins, 1 draw and 2 losses with 2 wins from 2 in Santiago (Haiti & Senegal hardly pushing them though) Chile like Paraguay have a really settled side although a few new guns are knocking at the door. They have a very talented squad and the fluid systems they tend to use means the side can alter formation and style in play. Something not many sides can do, Chile however play this way at youth level also and even club sides such as Uni de Chile and Catolica do this with ease.
