Portugal are in second place with 5-2-1 and 17 points, one point behind Russia. Israel are in third place with 3-3-2 and 12 points. Portugal dropped some unnecessary points in two draws, at home 1-1 against Northern Ireland plus 3-3 away to Israel, so they now need to win plus are dependent on the results in Russia’s matches. Israel have beaten Luxembourg and Northern Ireland while taken points from Azerbaijan and Portugal, so even though they have a microscopic chance to take second place in the group they belong in third place.

For Portugal the striker Postiga and left back Coentrao are suspended. In addition, defenders Pereira, Alves, and Lopez are all injured so changes to the defensive lineup are expected.

Portugal are a huge favourite with the bookmakers, and perhaps a bit too big a favourite considering the injuries in defence. They should win, but I find the handicap odds on Israel interesting, so I am betting Israel +2 at 37/40 (1.93) with Bet365.
