Austria welcome historical rivals and neighbours Germany to the Ernst Happel Stadion in Vienna. Both sides are in a bit of form but the away are strongly fancied to take all three points.
2012 Form:
- Austria P4 W3 D1 L0 GF8 GA3 - Average goals per game: 2.75
- Germany P10 W6 D0 L4 GF20 GA16 - Average goals per game:3.60
Head to Head: Games played 9
- Austria Wins:0
- Draws:1
- Germany Wins:8
Average goals per game:4.22
Austria are picking up form of late and seem to be gaining in confidence. After 4 games in 2012 they remain unbeaten but a key point is the standard of teams they are remaining unbeaten against. Wins over Finland, Ukraine and Turkey and a draw with Romania is a decent standard. The team has been lining up with a 4-2-3-1 formation with a strong attacking four. With Marko Janko up top and support from by Marko Arnautovic, Zlato Januzovic and Andreas Ivanschitz this is an attack minded Austria. Whether or not they can afford to do this against Germany this is another thing. The Austrian defence is fairly strong but importantly a stable one. Germany come into this game off the back of a 90 minute stroll against Faroe Islands. They coasted to a 3-0 win that should have been double that but for the heroics of goalkeeper Neilson. Germany in fairness were not on top form and did not really get out of 1st gear. Play was at times sloppy and not up to usual standards. Ozil was the player of the game and his darting runs late into the box were impossible to contain. He should have had at least a hattrick. Playing in a 4-1-4-1 with Khedira anchoring and Rues, Ozil, Gotze and Muller all effectively attacking Germany are a potent offensive unit. In this game they didnt need to over exert themselves as the Faroes offered nothing offensively.
Betting Prediction - For the match betting it looks like a definate win for Germany but 1.38 pinnacle away from home looks a little short for me. Goals look a certainty and both sides recently and against each other seem to have an abundance. 1.66 over 2.50 (betfair) look a good price.
