Kazakhstan host Republic of Ireland in a game that the Irish will fancy taking the three points from. Kazakhstan have caused several upsets over the years and will want to start off with a bang in this World Cup qualifier.
2012 Form:
- Kazakhstan P3 W1 D1 L1 GF5 GA5 - Average goals per game:3.33
- Republic of Ireland P7 W1 D3 L3 GF3 GA10 - Average goals per game:1.85
Head to Head: No games played.
Kazakhstan will want to start on the right foot and grab at least a point. The have the advantage slightly as The Irish have crosses 5 time zones to get to Astana and over 5000KM. The once Russian state had a good start to life as an independant country and especially at home. Recently however results have dried up and they only have the odd upset each qualifying. They usually line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation and their standout performers are defensive midfielder Kairat Nurdauletov and forwards Sergei Ostapenko and Sergei Khiznichenko. Republic of Ireland have a few problems going into this game. Facing a crisis of confidence after a terrible showing at Euro 2012.The poor performances led some to question Trapattoni's place at the head of the team, and his leadership suffered another blow last week when it emerged that Darron Gibson had rejected a call-up to this match, a game he would have probably started in light of an injury to midfielder Paul Green and the suspension of Keith Andrews. Damien Duff retired too and will be hard to replace. A win is expected of Ireland but this type of pressure often has a negative effect. Republic manager Giovanni Trapattoni has indicated that Simon Cox is likely to start the game .Kieren Westwood starts in goal, with a back four of Stephen Ward, Darren O'Dea, Sean St Ledger and John O'Shea in front of him. In midfield James McCarthy looks set to begin his first competitive game for the country alongside Glenn Whelan
Betting prediction - A really difficult game for Ireland who have travelled a fair distance, their team were severely overrated before the Euro 2012 tournement. Finished bottom of the group but coupled with three poor performances too. Kazakhstan will pose Ireland problems and goals may be lacking here. Republic of Ireland can be backed at 1.80 (stanjames) if you fancy them to take all three points.
Under 2.50 goals 1.64@betfair looks better value.
