Denmark faced a very tough group in the European Championships facing Netherlands, Portugal and Germany.  They finished third thanks to a 1-0 win over Netherlands and losing the other two games.  Since then they have had one friendly match where they lost 3-1 at home to Slovakia.

The Czech Republic had more success in the European Champions making it to the quarter final.  They lost their initial group game 4-1 to Russia and looked unimpressive but they improved markedly from there in wins against Greece and Poland.  In the quarter final they faced Portugal and lost 1-0 thanks to a late Cristiano Ronaldo goal.
