AC Milan is rebuilding their squad, and as a result they haven't been as stable as when they're at their very best. Udinese is a decent top half team in the Serie A, and they've been particularly good against the Milan powerhouse in recent years. My preview and predictions might surprise you, but I urge you to read on.

AC Milan is 7-0-4 at home this Serie A season. Udinese is 2-5-4 away from home. After the Christmas break Milan has shown great form, 3-1-0 is the bottom line. Udinese hasn’t fared badly either. 3-0-1 are good figures given they’ve met Juventus (lost), Siena, Fiorentina and Inter Milan.
Milan - Udinese has been played twice since and including 2011. Both matches ended with a draw. The reverse fixture this season ended 2-1 for Udinese. Milan had most of the possession, but Udinese were dangerous going forward. AC Milan brought in Balotelli from Manchester City. I am sure they’ll try to get him into the action as quick as possible, but this is probably a match day too early for him. Midfielders Ambrosini and de Jong are still ruled out. Fomer bits and parts defender Acerbi was sold to Genoa. Earlier in January Pato went back to Brazil! Milan also sent a lot of fringe players out on loan or disposed of them.
Udinese has loaned bits and part attackers Diego Fabbrini and Barreto to Palermo and Torino respectively. First choice goalkeeper Brkić is still out. Padelli deputises again! Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu (midfield) and Mehdi Benatia (defender) are said to be out still as well.

Milan is getting on with their generational shift, and I think they’re improving steadily. Balotelli might get his first start, but he will need time. AC Milan deserves to be favorites for this game. However, Udinese is really tough to beat, and now they’re on form as well. 3/5 (1.60) is available with Will Hill for the Milan win, but personally I think those odds are too short. Milan has struggled with Udinese in the past few seasons, and I can’t really see what makes this tie so different.
