Genoa v Fiorentina predictions & betting tips

Genoa lost 2-0 away to Inter in their first Serie A match of the season. Compared to last Serie A season’s final match six new faces were in the first eleven. By all means they’ve gotten in some talented players, and Gilardino will probably score eight plus goals, but Frey, Granqvist, Vargas, Borriello and Immobile are hard to replace.

Fiorentina won 2-1 at home against Catania. They were in the driving seat, but Catania created chances and could have gotten a point with some luck. In midweek Fiorentina lost 0-1 at home to Grashoppers in the Europa League qualification. The management has brought in a lot of new faces, and it looks like the team isn’t gelled yet.

Fiorentina hasn’t lost in Genoa since 2009. They haven’t won many times there either looking at history though. In the last four matches these sides have played one another Fiorentina has won three, and one has ended a draw. Last season the Viola won 0-1 away from home. The win was deserved, but Genoa was not far behind.

Both sides have a lot of new faces. Compared to last year I would say Genoa at best is equal strength. They managed five home wins last season, nine the year before. I think they’ll end up in that range again. In terms of home losses they lost seven last season and four the season before. I think Genoa has gotten gradually poorer, so I think seven to nine home loss looks a reasonable prediction for this season.

For me, Fiorentina is improved. Fiorentina obviously has the best squad, and eleven. They will be confident going into this tie looking at the last four matches against Genoa too. Last season Fiorentina was 8-3-8 away. This was a dramatic improvement on the year before. With a more balanced squad this year they should be able to rack up at least the same number of away wins.
