LIVORNO – ROMA: PREDICTIONS

Livorno rise from Serie B and have to open up with a difficult tie against Roma.

Livorno sneaked into the top flight via the back door of the playoffs. The side is not expected to do anything other than fight to avoid relegation. With one of the smallest budgets in the league Livorno have had to rely on loans and freebies. Four squad men from Inter have joined alongside a few others but no one to make you sit up and take note. Starting defender Allessandro Bernadini is out suspended.

Roma have made huge changes all round and look to be in better shape for the new season.  New coach Rudi Garcia is at the helm and will be optimistic on improving the fortunes of the side from the capital. Roma have spent big this season with the recruitment of several big names. Midfielder Gervinho, defender Mehdi Benatia and attacker Kevin Strootman come in for a combined €38 million. Strootman especially is the key signing and Roma was a surprise destination for the Dutch man. Matteo Destro is now fully owned by Roma while Maicon returns to Italy after a poor spell at Man City. Out goings for Roma are forward Osvaldo and keeper Stekelenburg, both to England Premier. While the Romans will try desperately to hang on to Erik Lamela who could be tempted to join Spurs if Gareth Bale goes to Madrid. Roma have injury doubts over two of the new signings with Strootman and Maicon both doubtful.
