UNION BERLIN – CELTIC: PREDICTIONS

Celtic continue their tour of Europe with another friendly match, they try to improve their fortunes againt Union Berlin at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei.

Union Berlin are one of the top sides still in circulation from the old East Germany. Playing in Bundesliga 2 they have survived a few near financial disasters and have finally seen light at the end of the tunnel. They are on an even keel now and will look to consolidate over the next few years. They have no major titles but do have a silver medal as runners up in German Championship but that was way back in the 1920’s.  Union Berlin have been a busy side and have played 5 friendly matches already, with 4 wins and 1 draw they are looking good. They have been involved in a few goalfests already with 21 goals scored and 8 conceded. Opposition has been good too with big wins over Babelsberg,  Most, Vestjaelland and most tellingly Dundee United.

Celtic are the undisputed current number 1 side in Scotland and until Rangers haul their way back to the top division will have an easy run at their next title. With 44 league titles to their name and a good pedigree in Europe they are one of the famous sides in World football. Of late though the quality seems to have dried up, the level of players is starting to decline and rather than a team full of stars they seem to have more a team full of journeymen. In friendly action they have had an early start too but with a poor opening run. Three games in Germany so far has yielded three defeats and the last game they were hammered 6-2 by Bundesliga 2 side Gruether Furth.  Defeats to Sevastapol (Ukraine) and Cluj (Romania) show hard work still needs to be done.

UNION BERLIN – CELTIC: BETTING TIPS

The odds in this game are still weighted towards Celtic but to me it looks like they are over evaluated. Union Berlin have been rampaging through sides and scoring goals galore. Celtic seem to be going through the motions and in the last game were outclassed by Gruether  Furth.  Union Berlin are rated a level below the recently relegated Furth but I think they are good enough on home soil to give Celtic another tough game.
