CSKA moved from 3^rd to 1^st at the weekend after the pressure at the top meant both Zenit and Lokomotiv failing to win. CSKA win the league with a win for sure and secure Champions League position with a draw but would then need Zenit to falter again to regain the title. CSKA have 61 points from the 29 games. Home record reads 12 wins, 1draw and 1 loss. Whilst form is perfect with 9 wins from last 9 league games.  Lokomotiv slipped up at the worst possible time and went down 2-0 to midtable Rostov. They fell down to 3^rd having led the league uptil that point.  The only way for them to go here is to try and win because they can only qualify for Champions League and take the title is if Zenit slip up also (away to Kuban Krasnodar) – Lokomotiv away from reads 8 wins, 3 draws and 3 losses. Recent form shows 2 wins, 3 draws and 1 loss which really is not good enough for a title run in.

Lokomotiv have no choice but to attack here as even a draw is no good for them as Zenit will oust them from Champions League spot with any result better than a 2 goal loss! – There is one hope outside of football in that Zenit could be sanctioned after the pitch invasion following last weeks home loss to Dinamo Moscow. The game was abandoned after Dinamo players were struck by fans. So possibly they could be fined points which would let Lokomotiv in. Back to this game and I feel Lokomotiv will do their best, a goal for both sides looks good here. Playing defensively is useless to the visitors and they can breach the CSKA backline.  Last 4 head to head matches has seen 14 goals for a game average of 3.50 goals – with all four having both to score and paying out.
