Russia Premier League opens for league favourites Zenit who face a tricky tie away to Krasnodar.

FC Krasnodar are one of the newest sides to make the top division in Russia. The side was in Russia 3 as recently as 2008 so have climbed the league ladder well over the last few years. There are few standout players for FC Krasnodar but they did well in each of the last two seasons; finishing 9^th and 10^th.

Zenit St Petersburg have the money and the squad to do well on domestic and European stage. Zenit have won the league title 3 times and have 1 USSR title also. The team from St Petersburg have serious cash and are not afraid to throw it around. Signings like Hulk and Axel Witsel for a combined fee of £64 million shows the spending power. With coach Luciano Spalletti still there it looks like this could be the another league title for Sky Blues.
