The Russian Premier League has lots of quality teams. Zenit and Lokomotiv Moscow are fourth and fifth, both with seven points after four matches.

Zenit has a fantastic squad! At home in St. Petersburg they haven’t lost against Lokomotiv since 2004. They still miss Hulk (Striker), Malafeev (Keeper), Faizulin (Midfielder), Criscito (Fringe Defender) and Zhevnov (Fringe Keeper). They have plenty of cover though. Zenit has played a bit of football lately as they qualified for the Champions League in midweek. Perhaps they’ll be a bit tired here?

Lokomotiv Moscow recently spent 30M euro on Logashov, Diarra and Boussoufa from troubled Anzhi. More money has been spent on strengthening the squad too. The club will miss midfielder Glushakov who transferred to Spartak this transfer window, but I like the looks of this rooster. Very balanced indeed! In their last match they hammered in-form Rostov 5-1 in Moscow.

Zenit are naturally favorites, but they miss some outstanding players, and they have been playing three games in nine days with pretty much the same eleven. When you meet a side as strong as this edition of Lokomotiv Moscow I think the game is a lot closer than the market odds indicate.
