RAYO VALLECANO – BARCELONA: PREDICTIONS

Rayo Vallecano go into this massive game in terrible form. They did manage an opening day 3-0 win over new boys Elche but since then things have gone disastrously. Two 5-0 maulings at Atletico Madrid and Malaga sandwich a home loss to Levante 2-1. The side has played poorly and were soundly beaten in each of the games. Mistakes and poor decisions throughout the game all mounted up as Rayo chased the ball like school children. Missing are starters Jose Bizcocho (defense)  and Ali Bangoura (attack) – while squad midfielders Iago Silva and Jose Vasquez sit out too.

Barcelona are looking good going forward as usual but are still showing their general weaknesses at the back.  However they sit atop the table with four wins from four with 14 goals scored and 4 conceded. Add to that the Supercoppa (won on away goals after 2 draws with Atletico ) and a midweek 4-0 trouncing of Ajax and you can see Barcelona are looking good. Lionel Messi took his personal tally to 9 for the season (with 2 hattricks already!) and is again terrorising defences. Out still are Affellay and Jordi Alba.

Rayo Vallecano cannot hope to cause problems for Barcelona and for me its just how far the Catalans take the game. Rayo have looked desperate defensively so far and Barcelona know full well how to take apart shoddy backlines.
