Valencia ended in fourth place last season, so the expectations were high before this season. But so far they are down in 8th place, winning only one match and drawing in two. They tied 0-0 against Rayo Vallecano and 1-1 against Deportivo La Coruna. Against Sporting Gijon last weekend it looked like another draw, but a goal in overtime earned them the first win of the season. They played Zenit at home in the Champions League this midweek, and lost that one 2-3.
Andre Gomes is back for Valencia after an injury, and should be match fit and could be starting the match today. The only two unavailable players are Alves and Ryan (both goalies), while Barragan and Mina also are back after suspension and injury respectively.
Real Betis has 1-1-1 so far this season, not too bad if you consider the opponents. In the season opener they hosted Villarreal and managed a draw, after that they lost 5-0 to Real Madrid, and last weekend they played at home against Real Sociedad and won 1-0. Petros was sent off in that match, so they played the second half with just ten men, and Petros is therefore unavailable for today’s match.
Last season Real Betis was in the Segunda division so the two teams did not play each other. But last time they met in Valencia it was the home side that own 5-0, and in fact Real Betis has not won this away match for 20 years now. And in the last three visits they have failed to score, the last ten encounters in Valencia has ended in a home win and a total goal difference of 27-6!
Valencia is the natural favourite in this match, and the odds on them are not really that attractive. But one bet that looks interesting is the red card bet. The referee is Carballo, one of the ones giving away the most cards. There has been five red cards in the last eleven matches between the teams. I am therefore going with the bet on a red card in the match, odds 2.95 with Unibet.
