BESIKTAS – TRABZONSPOR: PREDICTIONS

Opening day and a big derby between the next best  two sides outside Fener and Gala in Turkey Super Lig.. Istanbuls derby game here should be a tense affair, such a shame it occurs in game 1.

Besiktas finished 3^rd last season, only 3 points behind the better financed Fenerbache. They have not been able to invest much into the squad so far but they have improved somewhat with a  few decent signings.  In comes Canadian Atiba Hutchinson; Nigerian forward Michael Eneramo; Goalkeeper Tolga Zengin; Midfielder Serdar Kurtulus; Forward Omer; Midfielder Sezer; Colombian defender Pedro Franco; Goalkeeper Gunay Guvenc. Besiktas will have a clear run at the league this season after being banned from European competition.

Trabzonspor have not had the best of it in recent years and apart form 2011 they have not managed to grab the Turkish title. They have a really strong squad of players and it was a disaster last season were they scraped into 9^th position.   The Black Sea Storm have made a few eyecatching signings over the summer with Portuguese defender Jose Bosingwa, French midfielder Florent Malouda,  Defender Aykut Demir from Genclerbirligi and Forward Batuhan Karadeniz brought in. The two from the Premiership have fantastic experience but Boswinga seems to have wasted his talent while Malouda had some brilliant seasons at Chelsea before dropping down to the youth selection after internal problems.

This game looks very likely to be a draw for me. A really close game between two evenly matched sides. With the game a huge derby too I think both teams will be happy with a point on the opening day. The last 4 fixtures have all finished level with 3 x 1-1 and a 0-0. The draw at 3.40 (bet365) looks a big price in a game of this magnitude and it is the best value to be had here.
