Ukraine Premier League opens for Champions Shakhtar  Donetsk with a home tie against Hoverla Uzhhorod.

Shakhtar Donetsk  are late bloomers from the old USSR in that they never won a single Championship until 2001. Since that time though they have collected 8 league titles in all, with the last four in a row. They have created a dynasty in Ukraine and their model is to buy players and then sell on at a huge profit.
