CZECH REPUBLIC V BELARUS PREDICTIONS

The first day of the 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship is here and brings us four games. 3^rd ranked Czech Republic takes on the 13^th ranked Belarus. Last year the Czech Republic finished 3^rd in their group behind Sweden who the later eliminated in the quarterfinals. They then fell against Belarus in the semifinals, and faced Finland in the bronze medal game which they won. Belarus finished 7^th in the group and barely managed to stay in the highest division. They have met each other 4 times in competitive games and the Czech Republic has won all 4 games.

Czech Republic has appeared in the tournament 18 times and has won 6 times, latest being 2010. The Czech Republic has 10 players coming from the NHL with both veterans like Radim Vrbata and Zbynek Michalek but also young players like Jiri Tlusty and Jakub Voracek. Both Tlusty and Voracek have had great a season in NHL despite their teams not qualifying for the Stanley cup playoffs. Tlusty gathered 35 pts in 46 with his Carolina Hurricanes this season and Voracek managed to get 45 pts in 46 games with Philadelphia Flyers. Together the Czech Republic combines for 4761 NHL games played.

Belarus has appeared in the tournament 17 times and has never won. Belarus does not have any player coming from the NHL, and the only player with NHL experience is Konstantin Koltsov with 144 NHL games under his belt. Belarus is also both the youngest and lightest teams in the tournament with an average age under 25 and average weight just over 83kg. They were promoted to the highest division 2004 and made it to the quarterfinals 2 times since then, most recent being 2009.

CZECH REPUBLIC – BELARUS BETTING TIPS

Belarus comes to this tournament as previously mentioned with the youngest squad in the tournament. With 10 WC debutants and only 7 players with more than 20 games played in competitive matches for their national team. They will primarily focus on hanging on to their spot in the division but starting with a team like the Czech Republic won’t be easy. The Czech Republic has a lot of players from the NHL who can make a big impact on their team. Both Voracek and Tlusty have been exceptional for their respective NHL teams even though they did not qualify for the Stanley cup playoffs, and if they can keep the form they’ve had so far this season they can do a lot of damage to their opponents. This game feels like a one sided story and I can only see the Czech Republic come out on top.
