CZECH REPUBLIC V SWEDEN PREDICTIONS

The 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship continues. The Czech Republic takes on Sweden. They have played each other 78 times and Sweden has the better record with 41 wins and 32 losses. They have split their series this season in Euro hockey tour winning 2 games each. The Czech Republic was the team who eliminated Sweden in the quarterfinals in last year’s WC after Sweden beat them in the group stage.

Czech Republic played against Belarus on Friday and won the game 2-0. Jakub Voracek and Radim Vrbata scored for the Czech Republic, both came on the powerplay. Vrbata also picked up an assist on Voraceks goal for for a two point effort. The Czechs won shots on goal with 36 against 21 and controlled most of the game. Voracek had game high 8 shots on goal. Alexander Salak Registered a 21 save shutout.

Sweden fell in their opener against Switzerland with 2-3. Johan Fransson and Simon Hjalmarson scored the goals for Sweden. Sweden edged Switzerland in shots by 31-24 and had 7 powerplay opportunities but could only capitalize once on a 5v3.

CZECH REPUBLIC – SWEDEN BETTING TIPS

Sweden had a lot of trouble both in offense and defense. A lot of pucks were lost in the neutral zone and they didn’t create much threat whenever they established play in the offensive zone. Some of their defense seemed to have trouble with adjusting with the bigger rink compared to what they are used to in NHL, and that led to some chances for Switzerland, and also a goal. The Czech Republic won easy over Belarus even if they seemed to let Belarus in to the game a couple of times, but Salak were solid in the goal and stopped a breakaway from Belarus in a shorthanded situation when the score was 1-0 in the third period. Voracek had a good game and the pace of the game increased whenever he was on the ice, and I think he will be big threat. If both teams play like they played on Friday, the Czech Republic will win this game. But I’m assuming both teams will step up their game. The Czechs knows this is a much more difficult opponent, and the swedes need to win against Czechs to not be down in a big hole, 2 losses in 2 games could be devastating for them on home ice. Even though, I think the Czechs will steal this game from Sweden because I don’t see Sweden’s play improve enough to compete with Czechs yet this early into the tournament.
