Can Argentina win the World Cup?
This is the preliminary Argentina squad for the World Cup 2014 in Brazil:
Goalkeepers: Sergio Romero (Sampdoria), Mariano Andujar (Catania), Agustin Orion (Boca Juniors).
Defenders: Pablo Zabaleta (Manchester City), Federico Fernandez (Napoli), Ezequiel Garay (Benfica), Marcos Rojo (Sporting Lisbon), Hugo Campagnaro (Inter Milan), Martin Demichelis (Manchester City), Jose Basanta (Monterrey), Nicolas Otamendi (Atletico Mineiro).
Midfielders: Javier Mascherano (Barcelona), Fernando Gago (Boca Juniors), Lucas Biglia (Lazio), Ever Banega (Newell’s Old Boys), Ricardo Alvarez (Inter Milan), Augusto Fernandez (Celta Vigo), Jose Sosa (Atletico Madrid), Angel Di Maria (Real Madrid), Maxi Rodriguez (Newell’s Old Boys), Enzo Perez (Benfica)
Forwards: Lionel Messi (Barcelona), Gonzalo Higuain (Napoli), Sergio Aguero (Manchester City), Rodrigo Palacio (Inter Milan), Ezequiel Lavezzi (Paris Saint-Germain).
MY VIEW ON THE SQUAD
Argentina have a world class midfield and attack. However they are slighty lacking in real top class central defenders. They do have competent players there and as long as Demichelis is left on the bench they may go deep on this World Cup. They have world class players in midfield with Mascherano a superb anchor and Angel Maria a class act either on the wing or attacking. Upfront they have Messi behind Aguero and Higuain with Lavazzi an impact sub. An attacking four that anyone would dream of. A big plus for Argentina too is they will be based in the relatively cool South of Brazil and will be playing games near their own border. Argentina have the ability to get to the last four at least here and their fans will expect it.
