SPL Betting Tips - Aberdeen v Ross County

By howtobet on August 10, 2012 in Football

In week two of action in the SPL we have some excellent matches to look at.  In our first match we’ll see Aberdeen host Ross County in a battle of the North East.  Both teams will first be looking to stay ahead of any relegation battle this year as an initial goal, and then if they are performing well will be hoping to sneak into a top 6 place.

Aberdeen started the season with the most difficult tie they’ll have, an away trip to Parkhead to face Celtic.  Both teams were sluggish in the game and not many clear cut chances were created.  It took a bad mistake from Aberdeen goalkeeper Jamie Langfield to gift Celtic the lead and they held on to win 1-0.  Aberdeen will take heart from the performance, they defended resolutely against the best team in the league and a draw would have been a fair result.

Ross County started their first SPL season at home with last year’s 3rd place finishers Motherwell visiting.  Both teams were defensive minded and looking not to concede rather than trying to score, which is understandable with County playing their first SPL match.  Chances were at a premium throughout the match with neither team looking like winning it and 0-0 was a fair result.

This week Aberdeen will be boosted by the news that Mark Reynolds has signed again for them on loan from Sheffield Wednesday.  The player was at Aberdeen for the second half of last season and was excellent in defence and his return will be welcomed by the fans.

Neither team has scored yet this season and this will be the main question for this match.  Both managers have set up the teams in an organised defensive strategy that is aimed at keeping things tight at the back and hoping for a bit of quality at the other end to get the goals.  This quality is sadly lacking though in both teams and neither has someone who can create a goal out of nothing regularly.

Aberdeen is favourites for the match at 2.0, with the draw at 3.5 and a Ross County win at 4.5.  With the scoring trouble I highlighted earlier I’m going to concentrate on the total goals market where we can see that Under 2.5 is priced at 1.7.  I believe this is good value with neither team looking too strong going forward and two well organised defences.
