English Premier league - West Ham v Newcastle preview

By admin-alf on September 14, 2015 in Football, Sports

West Ham has so far this season beaten Arsenal 2-0 at the Emirates, and Liverpool 3-0 at Anfield. They were somewhat lucky against Arsenal, Arsenal did have plenty of chances but were unable to convert. Against Liverpool West Ham was in some periods the better team, especially in the first half. But West Ham has also lost at home to both Leicester and Bournemouth, so their performances have varied quite a bit. West Ham has scored at least two goals in three of the four matches, and if you asked them before the season they would probably be happy with six points after four matches.

Newcastle has only two points in four matches, although they have not played that badly. The two points have been earned via draws against Southampton (at home) and Manchester United (away). The two losses came away to Arsenal and Swansea, and in both matches they got a player sent off and had to play for some time with ten men. It is therefore a bit difficult to say with certainty how good Newcastle is, and we feel they have more on offer than what they have shown so far.

Team news

Adrian, Song, and Valencia are all still out for West Ham, but Carroll is back after injury and could get some time on the pitch tonight against his old club. Moses is probably ready, but still listed as doubtful for tonight’s match. For Newcastle, the players Marveaux, Mitrovic, Riviereon and Dummett are unavailable. However, of the mentioned players it was only the striker Mitrovic (recent transfer from Anderlecht) that played in the last match against Arsenal.

Betting opportunities

West Ham at home has so far this season been the equivalent of matches with many goals. They have played six matches at home since July, five of these ended over 2.5 goals. Last match against Bourmenouth ended over 6.5 goals. The Newcastle matches have not had as many goals, but in two of the matches they got a man sent off, plus they played quite defensively away to Manchester United (and occasionally counter-attacked well). Newcastle will probably respect West Ham and their offensive capabilities, but at the same time we do not expect them to lay quite as deep as they did against United. The absence of Mitrovic is a negative factor, but they do still have players like Cisse, Thauvin, Winjaldum, De Jong and others that all know how to score.

If you are going to bet on this match, we would consider the over 2.5 goals bet, at odds 19/20 (1.95) with BET365. If there is one goal scored, several more will probably be scored, so for those watching the match live it could be worth considering waiting.
