Manchester United v Liverpool preview

By admin-alf on September 12, 2015 in Football, Sports

The biggest Premier League match this Saturday is without a doubt Manchester United v Liverpool. Both teams have seven points in four matches so far this season, and this is simply not good enough for the fans. They have spent a lot of money on new players, and both Van Gaal and Rodgers are noticing the pressure.

Neither team has impressed so far this season, and some of the explanation for this could be that they have some new players in the squad, and it takes time to build a team with new players. But this is Premier League, so expectations are high right from the start of the season! To be honest, it is only Manchester City of the big teams that has impressed until now, and the teams below the top teams have also signed new good players, so the average quality of the league is really impressive.

Team news

Manchester United has renewed the contract with De Gea, perhaps the best goalie in the world, so could be we will see him on the pitch today. We will, however, not see Phil Jones, while Carrick is doubtful. Rooney also seems to be doubtful, which could lead to a debut by Anthony Martial. Flanagan is out for Liverpool , and Coutinho is suspended. Lallana and captain Henderson are both doubtful. Sturridge is back in training again, but most likely not match fit yet.

Run of play

Manchester United won both fixtures last season. On Old Trafford the goalie De Gea had one of his best United matches, and made half a dozen world class saves. Manchester United won that match 3-0. The match in Anfield was won deservedly by United 2-1, a match where Gerrard came in as a substitute, only to get a red card for a tackle on Juan Mata shortly afterwards.

Matches between these two teams are always intense and emotional, and we doubt today’s match will be any different. The European cups will resume next midweek, and normally the big teams will have this in mind, but today’s match is so important for the teams so they will be fully focused. Much will depend on the players’ form of the day, and the margins will be small. In recent years United has proven to be the best team, and Liverpool will be eager to prove otherwise. If they will manage this, only time will tell.

Betting opportunities

The last four encounters have ended over 2.5 goals, an interesting bet considering that you can get 6/5 (2.20) from William Hill.

There will be plenty of quality offensive players on the pitch. Manchester United will probably control the match when it comes to possession, and the motivation is always on top when facing Liverpool. Liverpool, on the other hand, is very good in counter attack when they really go for it. Benteke, Firminho, Ings, Origi, and Ibe, are all players that can be used if counter attacking is the strategy. We believe Liverpool will get plenty of these opportunities, as they normally do when meeting United, and they should be able to convert some of these to goals.
