Real Madrid won the first leg of this Champions League fixture 6-1 away from home. Let’s just be honest about it. This is nothing but a formality. Since they thumped Schalke they’re 2-1-0 domestically. Schalke on the other hand got thumped 5-1 by Bayern Munich before beating Hoffenheim and Augsburg.

Real Madrid has Arbeloa (Full back) and Khedira (Central/Defensive midfield) out still. Benzema (Striker) got injured this weekend and is also out. It is expected that Ancelotti will tinker quite a bit with his starting eleven too. That said, the Real Madrid squad is so big, and strong that no matter what Ancelotti will put out a great side. In a press conference he has confirmed Ronaldo will start. So will Isco, Morata and Jese.

Schalke 04 misses their regular full backs Fuchs and Uchida. Santana (central defender), Farfan (attacking midfielder), Clemens (Fringe attacking midfielder), Aogo (versatile player who plays left back or central defender) and Hoger (Defensive midfielder) are all out.

What is obvious is that Real’s reserves will do everything they can to impress Ancelotti. The stage is set for them to shine against a side that has enjoyed good European football moments in recent years. I would be surprised if Real Madrid wouldn’t see quite a bit of the ball, and destroy an already beaten Schalke 04.

For the visitors: I am sure they will focus all they got on the Bundesliga. They are currently 3^rd and that gives direct access to next season’s Champions League. On can only speculate, but I would not be surprised if they focus much more on the game coming up this weekend against Braunschweig.
