Ajax is 2nd in the Eresdivisie so far this season. At home they’re 7-3-1 (22-7 Goal Difference). Ajax played Champions League football pre these Europa League knock out stages. They had a really tough group, but managed third in their group. At home in the Champions League Ajax beat Manchester City 3-1, while they lost 1-4 both to Dortmund and Real Madrid.
Ajax has been in ok form after the winter break beating Feyenoord at home. In December also PSV was defeated. In their last game Ajax only managed a draw against Roda though. That can only be described as a robbery though. Ajax was super dominant in that game, but couldn’t convert.
Steaua Bucuresti is 10 points clear at the top of the Liga I in Romania. 15 wins in 19 games is massive. Away from home Steaua is 5-2-2 (22-11 Goal Difference). In the Europa League Group stages Steaua Bucuresti drew away to Stuttgart and FCK. Molde was beaten 2-1.
As the winter break is still on in Romania it is hard to say much about the form Steaua might be in. Several friendlies have been played against some fairly solid teams. The results have been mixed, and with friendlies you really never know. This is a very good Steaua Bucuresti edition, but it is of course never optimal to go so long without competitive matches. I definitely think Ajax has a plus there.

Ajax is still missing Babel (Striker) and Klaassen (Midfielder). The goal hungry midfielder Cristian Tanase is out for Steaua due to suspension. Other than that the coaches should be able to pick from strong squads.

Against a fluent side, with so much Europa Cup experience like Ajax that doesn’t bode well.
