RUSSIA V PORTUGAL PREDICTIONS AND PREVIEW: BETTING STATS

Russia are currently 12th the FIFA World Rankings and Portugal are 3rd. Russia qualified for Euro 2012 only to fail to progress to the quarter-finals but did not appear at the last World Cup. Portugal made the last 16 in South Africa two years ago and the semi-finals of Euro 2012. Russia have scored 15 goals in their last ten matches and conceded 5 while Portugal have scored 14 in ten and conceded 8.

RUSSIA V PORTUGAL: TEAM NEWS AND RUN OF PLAY

Russia made a great start to Euro 2012 when beating Czech Republic 4-1 in their first match with Andrei Arshavin being particularly impressive. However, they were not able to build on that result and did not qualify for the last eight. Cristiano Ronald was one of the best players at Euro 2012. He has a brilliant scoring record for Real Madrid but his statistics are not so impressive in international football. Nani also had a decent tournament in the summer and he can put aside his problems at Manchester United to provide Ronaldo with plenty of opportunities.

RUSSIA V PORTUGAL: 1X2 BETTING PREVIEW

Portugal are good enough to avoid defeat in this match and they could score at least one goal with Cristiano Ronaldo the obvious potential scorer. On world rankings these sides are quite well matched and home advantage should negate any differences in ability. Russia have not lost any of their last four matches played at home but have conceded in three of those matches. That suggests they could be vulnerable at the back and Ronaldo is clearly good enough to take advantage. This looks like a match in which both teams can score but a narrow win for Russia is the recommendation.

Portugal have one of the best players in the world in their side namely Cristiano Ronaldo. On his scoring form with Real Madrid he is fancied to score in any game he plays. He has more shots than any other player and his perseverance usually pays off with at least one goal. However, Russia are difficult to beat at home and can be backed in this market conceding less than a goal.

Russia’s ability to avoid conceding to visitors suggests Ronaldo may not score this time and on balance that leads to a conclusion that there will be less than 3 goals in this match.
