FLUMINENSE – VASCO DA GAMA: PREDICTIONS

It the “Giants Classic” derby between these grand old sides of Rio at Maracana.

Fluminense are not in great shape at the moment and for a side with possibly the strongest squad this is a mystery.  Flu sit in 11^th position with 3 wins and 4 defeats from 7 games.  They are struggling badly away from the Maracana with three straight defeats on the road, losing to Portuguse, Coritiba and Botafogo.  The last game out Fluminense were beaten at home too against a rampant Internacional, with Flu struggling to contain the very lively Diego Forlan.

Vasco da Gama are the crisis side of Brazil Serie A, the team is in turmoil with salary problems. These off field turbulences obviously affect on field performances which are not good. Vasco sit in with 2 wins, 1 draw and 4 defeats, their only win since opening day was a 2-1 home victory over a weakend Atletico MG side who rested the entire 1^st team for Copa Lib duty.  Juninho Pernambucano could make another debut for his side here as he was brought back from NY Red Bulls to try and revive his old side.
