Sunderland beat Newcastle in their traditional derby then came back to earth against Hull City. Having two men sent off in the first half in that game indicates they are going to give EPL survival all the fight they’ve got. Southampton has impressed everyone this season. They sit sixth in the EPL, and are unbeaten in eight (all competitions). They met early on this season, and it ended a 1-1 draw then, in Southampton. That was a game Southampton probably deserved to win! Since then I'd say Southampton has improved radically. Sunderland on the other hand simply fell apart.

Team News

Midfielder Lee Cattermole and fullback Andrea Dossena is definitely out for Sunderland due to suspension. Goal keeper Westwood is a doubt. Southampton is expected to rotate the squad heavily. At the time of writing it’s unclear who will be rested. I will update this as more information becomes available.
