Middlesbrough host Ipswich in a vital game for both sides. After four matches neither side has made any impression with inconsistent performances.

Middlesbrough have had a mixed start to the season with two good victories and two poor losses. Away from home against two of the lesser lights of the league in Barnsley and Millwall three points were barely contested. At home Middlesborough have had two decent victories but again both oppenents were from the bottom half of the table. So from a fairly easy start to the season 'Boro have only 6 points which is a meagre return and does not bode well for the upcoming matches. Ipswich themselves are in a bit of bother with only one win to show for the first four matches. Last time out The Tractor Boys shared the points at home to Huddersfield in a game they were lucky to get a point from. New boy Paul Taylor looked lively but Ipswich are suffering from a severe lack of confidence and defensively are a shambles. Playing a 4-4-2 the defensive line is full of experienced players but they are struggling as a unit.
