Manchester United are experiencing a few problems at the start of this season. Injuries have struck already and the team are having to adapt pretty much every game. They face a Wigan side who have started the season better than usual. This is a fixture they usually capitulate in so Martinez must hope for an improvement.

Manchester United had a close call and nearly left St Mary's pointless until Robin Van Persie took control of the game and scored 3 times. He can be forgiven for his failed "Panenka" after his last minute winner. The three points cannot disguise the problems Sir Alex Ferguson has. His team is lacking the top level quality that Mancini and Di Matteo has. There seem to be few matchwinners at Old Trafford now and this will cause problems as oppenents set themselves up to defend. The 4-2-3-1 formation see Van Persie ahead of Kagawa, Valencia and Welbeck, but the play relies on interpassing and movement and not individual skill. Van Persie picked up an injury on international duty and Ferguson must hope he regains fitness as with Rooney sidelined due to a muscle injury the options are dwindling. Another problem for United is the defence, although the players are there, they are looking open at the back and have gifted goals in each match so far this season. Wigan have started the season brightly which is something they do not usually do. Roberto Martinez has his team playing good possession football and they look good going forward. Defensively they are still getting things together as they adapt to the new formation. 3-4-1-2 is the set up and they are sticking with it, they have the numerical advantage in the middle and have numbers when attacking. The team looks better than in recent years and will have more success under the expert guidance of Martinez.  Last game out was an entertaining 2-2 draw at home to Stoke in a game that neither team could dominate. The clash of styles was entertaining and Stoke caused the usual problems for the Wigan backline who could not cope with the high balls and physicality of the big front men.

Betting Prediction - This is a fixture Wigan regularly lose and lose heavily.The team is much stronger these days and under Martinez play a much better style of play. Playing United suits them more than a Stoke for instance. Manchester United are going through a tough phase at the moment and if Van Persie is injured they are in for a struggle. Wigan +2 at 1.61 with Pinnacle seems a massive price.
