Newcastle will want to gain ground on the clubs above them when they take on Aston Villa at St James’ Park on Sunday.  We will preview the tie and give betting predictions.

Newcastle has had a fairly quiet summer with only the signing of Vurnon Anita likely to feature in the first team.  They have managed to hold onto their biggest stars which will see the fans think of the window as a success.  Newcastle made a strong start to the season when they beat Spurs 2-1 at home before losing to an excellent Chelsea team at Stanford Bridge.  They will be happy to have picked up 3 points from their first two games and will be targeting the supposedly easier games like this one to pick up the majority of their points.

Villa has had a torrid start to the season under new manager Paul Lambert.  They lost the first game against newly promoted West Ham 1-0 and then were soundly beaten 3-1 at home to Everton.  They must pick up points soon or they’ll end up in and around the relegation scrap later in the season.
